Urban Search and Rescue team helped in searching for mudslide survivors

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — They did their best to help find survivors from the deadly mudslides near Santa Barbara.

A special urban search and rescue team from San Diego are back home with stories of danger and bravery.

Stella the search dog could use a little R and R and for a good reason.

She and her search dog partner Decker spent the last week in mudslide-ravaged Montecito looking for survivors, people perhaps trapped beneath huge boulders sent crashing down fire-ravaged hillsides.

The highly trained canines are part of a locally-based elite urban search and rescue team sent to the Santa Barbara area.

And while Stella and Decker did not find any survivors, they were able to let residents know at least which neighborhoods did not have people waiting to be rescued.
