USD holds cyberbullying conference
The issue of cyberbullying is getting more attention, especially as it relates to recent teen suicides. Educators, counselors and students gathered Tuesday at USD for a day-long conference on cyberbullying, and KUSI's Ed Lenderman was there.
The suicide of 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick in central Florida happened last September. But the case still resonates when the issue of cyberbullying is brought up. Sedwick was a victim of online bullying. The local sheriff charged two girls in the case, but the charges were dropped soon afterward.
A British study estimates that 50-percent of youth suicides are the result of bullying. The issue was front and center Tuesday at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice on the campus of University of San Diego.
