USD holds cyberbullying conference

The issue of cyberbullying is getting more attention, especially as it relates to recent teen suicides.  Educators, counselors and students gathered Tuesday at USD for a day-long conference on cyberbullying, and KUSI's Ed Lenderman was there.

The suicide of 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick in central Florida happened last September.  But the case still resonates when the issue of cyberbullying is brought up.  Sedwick was a victim of online bullying.  The local sheriff charged two girls in the case, but the charges were dropped soon afterward.

A British study estimates that 50-percent of youth suicides are the result of bullying.  The issue was front and center Tuesday at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice on the campus of University of San Diego.
