USS Sampson back home

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Guided Missile Destroyer, the USS Sampson, sailed into San Diego Bay Monday morning after 7 months at sea.

The ship’s long deployment involved a “humanitarian mission” and the world was watching.

The Guided Missile Destroyer’s schedule called for the usual exercises with Navies of other countries. What wasn’t scheduled was the December crash of an Air Asia Airbus in the sea of Indonesia.

The Sampson immediately became involved in the search for the missing aircraft.

The 300 some Sampson sailors had already let their families know of how proud they were that their ship could provide some closure for the grieving families.
