VALENCIA PARK: Man accused in gas station crowbar beating to be arraigned
(CNS) – Arraignment is scheduled Wednesday for a 56-year-old man
accused of beating a 25-year-old man over the head with a crowbar while trying
to steal money from patrons of a gas station in Valencia Park.
Clare Lyle Neighbour was arrested Monday afternoon in Huntington Beach
in connection with the attack early last Saturday morning on Carlos Ramirez at
the Express Gas Station on Imperial Avenue, according to San Diego police Sgt.
Louis Valenzuela. Ramirez was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
Detectives from San Diego identified Neighbour as a suspect on Sunday
and learned he had ties to Huntington Beach, then notified authorities in the
Orange County city to be on the lookout, the sergeant said.
Huntington Beach police arrested Neighbour and turned him over to San
Diego police the same day, Valenzuela said.
Online jail records showed Neighbour was booked into San Diego Central
Jail around 10 p.m. Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and attempted
robbery.
