Valley Center Jaguars 33, Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns 6
The Valley Center Jaguars have been on one of their best runs in the schools history by reaching 4-1 in back to back seasons, a feat they hadn’t reached since the 2011 season. Tonight’s opponent is in a similar boat, the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns 4-2 start is their best since 2013. Only one side could continue their phenomenal start, that team was Valley Center in a very convincing 33-6 win.
Mateo Sinohui was a critical piece in the Jaguars victory and gave the team a quick advantage right out of the gate. He gained all 50 of Valley Centers yards on the drive before quarterback Rikki Mazzetti found Zachary Mendenholz in the end zone. Dorian Richardson gave the Longhorns some life with his own touchdown run from 20 yards out, and Jaguars responded swiftly with a score from, you guessed it, Mateo Sinohui. Up 13-6, Valley Center closed the gap right before halftime with Mendenholz’ second touchdown grab of the night.
With this win Valley Center jump to 5-1 and look to keep the streak alive with a win over San Pasqual. Rancho Buena Vista can improve their now 4-3 record next week by holding off the Ramona Bulldogs at home. Be sure to catch all of next week’s highlights only on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report!
Preview: The Valley Center Jaguars have had a very impressive 2017 season, winning 4 of their first 5 games with a strong dose of both offense and defense. They’ll be celebrating homecoming with one of their tougher match ups thus far, the 4-2 Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns.
Valley Center’s success can be largely attributed to the play of quarterback Rikki Mazzetti and running back Mateo Sinohui. Mazzetti has played mistake free football under center and can always rely on Sinohui in his backfield. The junior running back has already rushed for over 600 yards while averaging 5 per carry. Senior receiver Zachary Mahrenholz has also been a huge help for this Jaguar team. Mahrenholz had 650 receiving yards last year and has already reached 500 halfway through this one.
Rancho Buena Vista suffered a loss last week thanks to a late run by Imperial, so this will be an important game for them to bounce back in. The running game is very strong thanks to a talented offensive line, and it doesn’t hurt to have a back as talented as Dorian Richardson. Richardson has already reached double digit touchdowns to go with 1,000+ rushing yards on the year. This is possibly a future playoff matchup the way both teams are looking, find out who gets the win this Friday on KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report!
