Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals free housing summit

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Close to 250,000 veterans throughout San Diego are eligible for local and federal programs that can save them money on housing, energy costs, insurance and property taxes. San Diego County and the state of California also have programs to help veterans get into their own home, but they are never advertised.

Andre Hobbs, the President of the San Diego Chapter Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals was in studio talking more about VAREP’s free summit designed to help Veterans learn how they can qualify for benefits. There are close to 250,000 Veterans in San Diego that are eligible for local and federal programs that can save them money. Plus, California has programs to help Veterans get into their own home, but they are never advertised.

For example, 26-year-old Shelly Rutlidge no longer pays property taxes and mortgage insurance for her home in El Cajon. As a veteran of the Marines, she recently took advantage of her VA benefits that are frequently overlooked by veterans.

The nonprofit organization, VAREP, helped Shelly take advantage of these VA benefits she earned from her service. Most veterans, reservists and military families aren’t aware of the different VA programs that can lower their housing costs.

On Saturday, VAREP is hosting a free VA Summit to help veterans learn how they can qualify for these benefits. The VA Summit is being organized by volunteers with the help of a few private sponsors.
