Veterans Day ceremonies throughout San Diego
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Veterans Day ceremonies will be held at community colleges throughout San Diego County Monday on the eve of the holiday.
San Diego City College President Anthony Beebe and students who are members of the military will speak at a 10:30 a.m. ceremony in Gordon Quad at 1313 Park Blvd., according to San Diego Community College District officials. Then at 12:30 p.m., colors will be presented in the first floor foyer of the Student Services Building at San Diego Miramar College, 10440 Black Mountain Road, district officials said.
Following the colors presentation at Miramar, Abel Martinez — president of the Miramar College student Veterans Organization — is scheduled to speak and a roundtable discussion with veterans will be held. Among the topics expected to be discussed are the challenges military members face in re-adjusting to civilian life.
In the North County, an information center for student veterans will open for the first time at MiraCosta College at 12:30 p.m. Around 1,500 active-duty and veteran students take classes at the Oceanside school, along with about 800 of their family members, MiraCosta officials said.
