Vista boy, 2, hit by drunk driver leaves hospital
VISTA, Calif. (AP) – A 2-year-old San Diego County boy who was badly injured by a teenage drunken driver has gone home after a seven-month hospital stay.
Izaiah Wallis of Vista was released on Tuesday but will continue to need 24-hour care.
Family spokeswoman Linda Van Kessler tells the North County Times that the boy is partially blind, breathes through a tube and is paralyzed from the chest down.
A fund has been set up to help the family with medical and living costs.
Izaiah was in a stroller pushed by his grandfather when an SUV driven by a drunk, unlicensed 17-year-old hit the pair on Oct. 18.
Under state law, the teen was tried as a juvenile. He received the maximum sentence of 480 days in custody.
