Vista Panthers 28, Ramona Bulldogs 20
The Vista Panthers traveled to Ramona to take on the Bulldogs Friday. It was Ramona’s Homecoming Night and the Panthers looked to play the spoiler role. Both Teams came in with identical (1-3) records and were at the bottom of the Palomar League standings.
It was the Bulldogs that got the scoring started as Dawson Castro would put Ramona up 7-0 on a three yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. Vista would answer though with a touchdown run of there own as Elijah Davis would score from 11 yards out to tie the score.
That’s all the scoring as the first half would end with the game tied at seven. In the third quarter, Ramona’s Defense would capitalize on a Panther fumble. Anthony Garegnani would scoop up the fumble and rumble 18 yards to put the bulldogs up 14-7. Vista would tie it up however, as Nicolas Stormo would score on a two yard run to close out the third quarter.
The fourth quarter would see the Panthers take their first lead of the game when Vavega Sialoi would score on a one yard touchdown run. That would push the score to 21-14. Ramona had the chance to tie the game when Tristan Stacy would score on a five yard run. Vista’s Special Teams came through in a big way by blocking the point after kicking attempt. That made the score 21-20.
Vista’s Sialoi would score another late touchdown run to seal it for Vista as they would win 28-20. Vista now runs their record to 2 up and 3 down while Ramona falls to (1-4). One of those games will feature two teams who currently find themselves in the bottom of the Palomar League standings looking up. The Vista Panthers and Ramona Bulldogs will face off in Ramona with Identical (1-3) records. Each losing their Palomar League opening games last week.
The Bulldogs like to air it out on offensive. Quarterback Casey Buggein averages 125 yards passing per game. It’s on the defensive side of the ball where Ramona has struggled this season. The Bulldogs have given up 42 points per game thus far midway through the season.
The Vista Panthers are in a new League this season, having moved from the Avocado – East into the Palomar League. They also have a new Coach as Dave Bottom takes over. They are in a similar situation with the Bulldogs, as their defense has also struggled to keep their opponents out of the end zone. They lost to the Mt. Carmel Sundevils 45-21 last week. Their lone win this season came against cross town rival Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns.
