Voting rights coalition to discuss election reform initiative in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The San Diego League of Women Voters,, FairVote, and the Independent Voter Project will be hosting a public forum at the University of San Diego School of Law on Tuesday, January 21st to discuss the merits of advancing the next big election reform in the City of San Diego.

The forum will be co-hosted by independent San Diego City Councilmember Mark Kersey who said, “A top-four primary election reform combined with Ranked Choice Voting would open our city elections to more competition, reward positive campaign messaging, and encourage more voter participation.”

The public is invited to learn and discuss the merits of an initiative that would advance four candidates out of the primary (instead of two) and then utilize “ranked choice voting” in the general election to ensure a majority winner.
