Wanted 29-year-old seriously injured after short chase
SAN YSIDRO (KUSI) – A 29-year-old man with a warrant out for his arrest sped away from a traffic stop in San Ysidro but lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a light pole a short time later, San Diego police said Wednesday.
Daniel Gutierrez initially pulled over and handed over his identification when he was stopped for a minor traffic violation shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday but "suddenly sped away,” San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.
Officers lost sight of Gutierrez’s vehicle for a time but spotted it minutes later after it crashed into a light pole at a high rate of speed in the 4400 block of Camino De La Plaza near Willow Road, Lasher said.
Gutierrez was taken to a hospital following the crash to be treated for a brain bleed and other serious injuries, according to the officer.
