Water main break causes sinkhole in Southcrest

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A water-filled sinkhole shut down traffic in Southcrest Tuesday afternoon, San Diego Police Department said.

The 8-inch water pipe broke around noon Tuesday on 38th and Z streets in the Southcrest neighborhood.

Police officers shut down Z Street to traffic Tuesday while city crews worked to repair the water pipe.  When they shut off water to the ruptured pipe, 55 customers were left without water service, city officials said.

The city estimated repairs would be completed and water service would be restored by 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
