Water main break causes street closures downtown
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A water main break in the downtown San Diego area caused numerous homes and businesses to go without power Tuesday morning.
The 8-inch concrete main was struck by a contractor working near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and A Street overnight. The rupture knocked out service to the 300 through 600 blocks of A Street and the 400 and 500 blocks of Cedar Street, according to city Public Utilities Department spokesman Arian Collins.
The ruptured pipe also prompted authorities to close Fourth Avenue from A to Ash streets, Collins said.
Crews working to repair the water main expected to have the pipe fixed and service restored by 2 p.m.
