Water-pipeline break shuts down part of Oceanside

OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A water-pipeline break shut down part of an Oceanside thoroughfare Thursday and left nearby homes and businesses without functioning plumbing through the afternoon.

The ruptured line began flooding Vista Way between Snead Drive and Via Esmarca about 12:15 p.m., said Greg Blakely, a spokesman for the city Water Utilities Department.

The overflow left a roughly 300-yard stretch of roadway underwater along with an adjacent motel parking lot, according to Blakely.

Repairs to the failed pipe — believed to be an 8-inch-diameter line — were expected to take until at least midnight, he said.

It was unclear how many residences and businesses were affected by the water service outage.
