Week 1 East County Game of the Week: Helix Highlanders 28, Cajon Cowboys 22

The Helix Highlanders took on the Cajon Cowboys in a rematch of their 2018 game for the El Cajon Ford East County Game of the Week.

The Cowboys struck first in this one when BJ Phillips made a nice catch, and after a two-point conversion it was 8-0 Cajon.

But, a few minutes later Delshawn Traylor had a QB keeper as he went up and over for a score making it 8-6 Cajon.

Here came the man of the hour, Elelyon Noa, who had a 65-yard touchdown which brought his team to within three.

In the third quarter, here came Noa again, this time with the one-yard touchdown to give Helix their first lead of the game, 20-16.

The Cowboys would score again in the third on a catch by AJ Waters to make it 22-20 Cajon.

But here came Elelyon one more time in the 4th quarter for the lead.

Cajon battled back with a few minutes left in the game, but Jeremiah Fletcher had the game-ending interception.

Helix won, 28-22.

Preview

The Helix Highlanders will open the 2019 season at home against the out-of-town Cajon Cowboys from San Bernardino.

These two teams are no stranger to one another. Last year, they played each other in Week 1, as well, with Helix falling, 43-3.

However, the Scotties are ready for the rematch, this time on their home turf to try and pick up a win.

The Cajon Cowboys, coached by Nick Rogers, finished their 2018 campaign with a 12-2 overall record and are ranked 56th in the state of California coming into this season.

As for the Highlanders, they are coached by Robbie Owens and are coming into this season ranked 32nd in the state.

The combination of Delshawn Traylor and Elelyon Noa as well as being backed by the rest of a very strong Helix team is going to make them a hard team to beat this season.

This game will start at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
