Week 1: Mission Bay Buccaneers 20, San Ysidro Cougars 14

Week 1 in the South Bay was one for the books with a crazy ending as San Ysidro defeated Mission Bay, 20-14.

Mission Bay’s Evan Aguon put the first points on the board with a 40-yard impressive touchdown run.

San Ysidro bounced back in the second half as Mathew Jamie was carrying the load and put the Cougars ahead 14-7.

The Buccaneers tied it all up with minutes left in the game.

Game all tied up at 14-all when Mission Bay had a huge defensive stop with two minutes left and forced San Ysidro to punt.

The Cougars were back to punt and the ball went flying over the punter’s head and the botched snap was picked up by Tucker Uglem for the game-winning touchdown.

Mission Bay opened the season for late coach Dane Roman and the Buccaneers know he would be proud today.

PREVIEW:

Week 1 of high school football has arrived for the 2019 season and players, coaches, and parents are all ready for this Friday night.

The San Ysidro Cougars will be hosting the Mission Bay Buccaneers to kick off the season. Last season, the Bucs took the victory over the Cougars, 38-14.

The Mission Bay Bucs are coming off a tough 2-8 2018 season but have some key returners this season that will help get this team going this year.

One of those players is senior captain Evan Aguon.

Aguon has a couple D1 offers and plays on both side of the ball and will be a huge factor this season for the Bucs.

Junior wide receiver/free safety Andrew Hutchison and junior running back/linebacker Andrew Lewis are also players that will want to keep your eye on.

San Ysidro is led by head coach Keith Aguon who is also Evan Aguon’s father.

On Friday, he will be coaching against his son to start off the season.

The Cougars’ offense is led by running back Josue Juarez, who will look to carry the load.

San Ysidro’s junior wide receiver Raheem Nowlin and senior Phillix Kilbourne are two basketball studs that can make some noise on the football field as well.

Both teams are looking to bounce back this season and start off with a win but which team will it be?
