Week 1 North County Game of the Week: Madison Warhawks 34, Rancho Bernardo Broncos 23
The Madison Warhawks soared their way to a victory Friday night against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos, 34-23.
After losing Kenan Christon to USC, the Warhawks were on the hunt for a new running back.
Ke’ontae Springs fills the shoes just fine.
In the first quarter, the Warhawks were on the 6-yard line, going for 6, and they get the 6 but No. 6, Ke’ontae Springs.
Now usually 6,6,6 means bad luck… but not for Mr. Springs. He came out in the second quarter with an 88-yard touchdown run and just like that Madison was in the lead, 13-3.
Later in the second quarter, the Broncos look for their first touchdown of the night.
Rancho Bernardo quarterback Zeke Payne found Ja’shon Williams for the 39-yard touchdown and the Broncos were only down by 3.
Well no Payne, no gain.
Shortly after, Zeke Payne found Williams again but this time for a 63-yard touchdown run and just like that the Broncos took the lead, 17-13.
The Warhawks added a quick one-yard touchdown right before the half to take the lead back. 20-17.
A quick pep talk from Madison head coach Rick Jackson and Springs was back like he never left.
On the first play in the third quarter, Springs came out with an 80-yard touchdown run.
Madison’s Herman Smith joined in on the fun as he added a 33-yard touchdown run and the Warhawks took the 34-17 lead.
The Broncos were trying to come from behind, and they added one more touchdown, this time by Andrew Clawson, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Madison Warhawks headed back home with a win under their belt.
Madison looks to keep their winning streak alive as they host Steele Canyon in their first home game of the season.
