Week 10 City Game of the Week: St. Augustine Saints 39, Point Loma Pointers 0

The St. Augustine Saints (6-3), led by quarterback Angelo Peraza, met the Point Loma Pointers (5-4), led by quarterback Jason Peres, in a Week 10 Western League conference matchup on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018.

The final score in this one? All saints-men since 1922, a final of 39-0. It appeared the Saints used some bottled up anger from last week’s upsetting loss to Madison.

The first four possessions of this football game resulted in a punt to an opposing star athlete.

Point Loma had their first points blocked on a 37-yard field goal by Saints-man Malcolm Williams.

The resuming possession for the Saints, their drive ended with a 2 yard TD run by Sage Eismann. The point-after attempt was through the uprights. The push for the goal-line was set up by a 49-yard run by Cole Barry starting on their own 20.

The next possession for the Pointers, on the kickoff, Cris Brown had a return of 70 yards to the 25-yard line. The biggest play for the Pointers this evening.

The Jersey Mike’s City Player of the Game was Peraza, the junior from the Saints.

On the night, recorded a 51-yard QB keeper on a rollout right, to go back left and reserve his family reservations for six at Chicken Charlies. He also found sophomore Byron Cardwell for an 80-yard screen pass to the house.

To start the third quarter, the Saints went down and scored on three plays. The Pointers got the wind knocked out of them after a muffed kickoff to start the second half for Point Loma. Momentum was unable to be regained.

The Saints defense swarmed in numbers and gang tackled at maximum effort. Jalil Tucker, for the Saints, had the sweetest sack on the night coming off the edge as a corner blitzer from the blind side.

PREVIEW

This Friday night at Point Loma High School, the 5-3 Pointers host the Saints from St. Augustine, who are also 5-3. Point Loma is 1-1 on the season against Western League opponents, as St. Augustine is 1-2.

The head coach for the visiting Saints is Joe Kremer and the head coach for the Pointers is Mike Hastings.

Last year, these two teams played back in Week 7. The Saints defeated the Pointers, 53-34, in a game that was 27-21 at one point. Look for this matchup to be high scoring this Friday night lights.

The Saints are coming off a week nine loss to Madison High School, 27-24. The rushing attack for the Saints is held by a dual back system. Byron Cardwell and Cole Barry both averaging more than 5.6 yards-per-carry.

Captain Angelo Peraza has quite a few threats via the air. Two targets to look for this Friday are wideout Samuel Scaife III and fellow captain Michael Ambagtsheer at tight end.

The Pointers are coming off a win last week against Lincoln, 33-20. Point Loma lost to Madison back in Week 8, 45-33.

Point Loma has two quarterbacks they like to run with. Jason Peres and Trey Cobb are both juniors.

Look for Jl Skinner III on both sides of the ball, along with Christian Terzoli at linebacker and running back. Kaden Gill looks to move the chains on the ground. A key factor in this matchup Friday will be tight end Nick Riffle
