Week 10 North County Game of the Week: Carlsbad Lancers 14, La Costa Canyon Mavericks 7
The North County Game of the Week in Week 10 of the Prep Pigskin Report brought us back out to La Costa Canyon as the Mavericks took on the Carlsbad Lancers.
Not only was it the North County Game of the Week but also the 26th annual Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary cup. The Lancers had won the cup 13 times and the Mavericks had won 12 times.
Well, after the Lancers beat the Mavericks, 14-7, Carlsbad took the cup home for the 14th time.
It was a slow start for both teams in the first quarter, but things started to pick up towards the end of the second quarter.
Carlsbad quarterback Aiden Sayin found Mr. Cole Wright for a 38-yard touchdown pass and the Lancers got on the board first.
The Mavericks answered right back with 10 seconds left in the second quarter, as Marshall Eucker found Jayden Lucian for a 7-yard touchdown pass and the game was tied at 7-all.
The Lancers got the ball rolling in the second half of the game when Sayin found Zach Chavez in the back of the end zone, ass the receiver made a one-handed catch to get the touchdown. Later in the fourth quarter, La Costa Canyon was down by 7 with 28 seconds left in the game trying to battle their way back but the Lancers’ DJ Young came out of nowhere with a huge interception, and just like that, the Carlsbad Lancers came out on top once again, not only winning the 26th annual Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Cup, but Carlsbad is also the Avocado League Champions.
La Costa Canyon will travel to Torrey Pines to take on the Falcons next Friday night while Carlsbad will have their last home game of the season against Vista.
