Week 10 South Bay Game of the Week: Eastlake Titans 25, Otay Ranch Mustangs 10

After overcoming a slow, 1-5 start to the season, Eastlake completed an undefeated, 4-0 run through the Metro-Mesa League for their tenth title in a dozen years.

In Week 10, the Titans’ defense and special teams led the way to their convincing win over Otay Ranch, 25-10.

In the first half, the special teams had a fumble recovery and blocked punt for a touchdown.

Otay Ranch received the opening kickoff and a big hit on kick returner Ethan Knight jarred the ball loose, putting Eastlake in business at the Mustangs’ 39-yard line. The ensuing drive didn’t lead to any points for the Titans, but the fumble on the first play of the game set the tone.

At the start of the second quarter, Max Susi blocked a punt and Keith Wilkes recovered it in the end zone to begin the scoring for Eastlake.

The ensuing drive for Otay Ranch ended with Anthony St. John Gonzalez stepping in front of a Paco Fuentes pass for an interception. The turnover would convert into points as lineman Jackson Daily pounded it in from the 1-yard line.

The Eastlake defense would have a handful of sacks along with multiple turnovers on the night.

Other than the defense and special teams, the Titans’ bright spot on offense came from Jordan Blondin, who had two spectacular touchdown catches. The sophomore receiver provided the big plays on offense, when needed, to keep Eastlake in control of the game.

Eastlake will end the regular season on a bye week and will anxiously await for the Division I seeds to come out.

Otay Ranch (3-6) will look to end the season on a high note as it plays against league foe, Olympian.
