Week 10: St. Augustine Saints 35, Madison Warhawks 18
The man of the night was St. Augustine’s Richard Colmenero III, who threw for four touchdowns on the way to a Saints’ 35-18 victory over the rival Madison Warhawks. The man of the night’s highlight of the night? A 95-yard streak down the right sideline to Jalil Tucker to put the icing on the cake for St. Augustine.
The score did not reflect the competitiveness of the game as the last touchdown came on a Saints’ onside kick return touchdown, and in a game that should have been separated by only 10 points, Madison showed it can hang with the best of them.
With defensive phenom Mike Jones hauling in a 33-yard pick-six off the St. Augustine quarterback and Ke’ontae Springs taking in a Jaylen Thomas pass, Madison’s offense did not bend nor break against the aggressive “flex” defense boasted by the Saintsmen.
As Madison falls to 5-4 on the year, it hopes to finish strong in a Week 11 non-conference matchup against Mira Mesa, traveling to the Marauders’ house before heading into the San Diego Section’s Division I playoffs.
St. Augustine came out with a clean 7-2 record, hoping to put on a strong showing against Point Loma and sneak back into the Division I’s Top 4, and therefore, the Open Division Playoffs.
These two teams will be extremely competitive and fun to watch come playoffs.
