Week 11: Chula Vista Spartans 28, Sweetwater Red Devils 13
Week 11 of prep football has come and gone. Friday night, the Chula Vista High School Spartans hosted the Sweetwater Red Devils for a Legacy of Pride rivalry game. The winner of this game took home the Legacy of Pride trophy, which dates games between these two schools back to 1948.
It was not until the second quarter of the matchup that the momentum for both teams began. In the second, Spartan quarterback Omar Perez found Dylan Sallee on the cross route from 8 yards out for a score.
Spartan senior Sallee showed off and showed out this Senior Night. Sallee ended the night with three touchdowns, one of which was off of a pick-six in the third quarter.
Also in the third quarter, Red Devil Nicholas Salazar responded to Sallee’s pick-six with an 86 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to put Sweetwater on the scoreboard.
The Red Devils would go on to score one last time as the time on the clock expired, but it was not enough to win the game.
Sweetwater came up just short, ending the contest with a score of 28-13 in Chula Vista’s favor.
The win secured Chula Vista’s possession of the Legacy of Pride trophy which was previously being held by Sweetwater.
Next week, tune in to KUSI at 11 p.m. for all the playoff game highlights on the Prep Pigskin Report.
