Mission Bay Buccaneers 21, Clairemont Chieftains 13

POSTGAME:

The Mission Bay Buccaneers were the team with more depth this Friday night to end the regular season off on the right note. They traveled to Clairemont High School to take on the Chieftains, they came away with their second win of the year. The Chieftains displayed a heavy amount of heart out there. Your final in this one; 21 to 13 Mission Bay over Clairemont.

To start the ball game, Clairemont scored on their first possession of the night. The drive took 14 plays and ended with a 1 yard push across the goal line by running back Brody Hosch. That touchdown was set up by a 18 yard pass by Ryan Christensen to wide out Max Wehsener. The PAT was no good.

The following drive by Mission Bay ended in a 25 yard touchdown run by Anthony Armstrong to make the score 7-6. PAT good.

Mekai Cross, the strong safety for the Buccaneers wound up with two interceptions collected in the first half. He set up his offense with fantastic field position. QB Nick Tropio was slippery all night long getting away from pressure. Early in the second quarter, Tropio found Sean Edwards for a touchdown from 37 yards out.

Tropio to Edwards was hot all night long and a problem unsolved for the Chieftains.

The sweetest play on the night developed after a timeout from Coach Diaz on 3rd and 12 to change the play or even talk things over. Well, it ended up working out …Ryan Christensen and Donovan Fitzgerald connected for a 50 yard touchdown to make it a one possession game to make it 21-13. The straight seam out of the slot was wide open.

The Offensive and defensive lineman Giovanny Gutierrez for Clairemont was all over the field tonight. The young man forced a fumble and even made the extra point attempt on the second touchdown touchdown of the night scored by the Chieftains.

The Mission Bay Buccaneers (1-8), led by senior quarterback Nick Tropio, are scheduled to matchup up against the Clairemont Chieftains (0-9), led by quarterback Ryan Christensen this Friday, October 26th, 2018. The head coach for the visiting Buccaneers from Mission Bay is Dane Roman and the head coach for the Clairemont Chieftains is Manny Diaz. This is the last football game on the schedule for both squads Mission Bay and Clairemont.

Clairemont heading into week 11 is ranked 14th out of 16 teams in the San Diego Section Division V football playoff rankings. Mission Bay is ranked number 15th out of 17 teams in the San Diego Section Division IV football playoff ranking.

In week No. 10, Clairemont is coming off a home loss to Crawford High School, 26-16. Crawford was up 20-3 after the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Chieftains outscored the Colts 13-3 to make it a two-possession game.

Mission Bay High School took on Scripps Ranch High School in week No. 10. The final was 36-26, Falcons, over the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers were victorious back in the first week of the season defeating San Ysidro, 38-14.

Combined scores this season, the Buccaneers and the Chieftains have scored 155 points for their school in total. Both schools have allowed 616 points to opponents this year.

This rivalry matchup will send the regular season off on the right way. Hard nose football. It will be one to come down to the last possession.
