Week 11: Torrey Pines Falcons 38, La Costa Canyon Mavericks 0

The Torrey Pines Falcons grabbed the La Costa Canyon Mavericks by the horns and brought home the 13th Annual Beach Bowl Surfboard.

The Falcons showed their true colors Friday night with a 38-0 win against the Mavericks.

On top of the surfboard, the undefeated Falcons (9-0) are the Avocado League Champions.

Coach Ron Gladnick and the Falcons came into the game with their heads high and full hearts.

Three minutes into the first quarter, quarterback Jason Heine passed to Mac Bingham for a 32-yard touchdown making the score 6-0. This touchdown set the tone for the night and gradually escalated.

Later in the second quarter, Bingham sacked LCC’s quarterback Marshall Eucker, as well. He can do it all.

Heine was untouchable with three touchdowns and a total of 77 rushing yards.

His main targets consisted of Bingham, Evan Galuzzi, and Caleb Jackson. These boys know how to move the ball up the field.

The Mavericks had opportunities to put points on the scoreboard but didn’t quiet reach the end zone. They definitely put up a fight with great routes on offense.

Eucker aimed for Aiden Lippert and Trevor Gonzalez’s hands throughout the night. The targets were in route but unfortunately did not execute.

The Mavericks will have another chance next year to prove themselves.

PREVIEW

We’re knees deep in Week 11 and this week’s game is the biggest of them all… IT’S RIVALRY WEEK!!! The undefeated Torrey Pines Falcons will travel to the rival La Costa Canyon Mavericks at LCC’s home field. This North County rivalry is going to sell out quickly and is a conference game you don’t want to miss. The game will kick-off at 7 P.M. sharp along with Senior Night for the Mavericks. These teams are competing for huge bragging rights, league standings, and the “Best of the Best” title.

With the Falcon’s undefeated overall record, 8-0, Coach Ron Gladnick wants to secure his #1 spot in the Avocado League and Division I Standings. Mac Bingham led Torrey Pines to victory against Oceanside last week, 71-41, with eight rushing touchdowns and the help of his QB Jason Heine and the offensive line. The Falcons cannot be more pumped. This week’s game will set the closing tone of the season, just in time for playoffs.

Coach Sean Sovacool is searching to climb up in the rankings and beat the Falcons. The Mavericks unfortunately lost against Carlsbad last week, 24-7, but they are fired up like a bull tempted by a red cloth…or a red Pigskin jacket. Since 2011, LCC and TP have exchanged wins each year.

Who will the Surfboard go to this year? At last year’s regular season match up LCC beat Torrey Pines in a very close game, 27-21. The Falcons scored three touchdowns with a total of 22 rushing yards. Mavericks’ rising senior Jake Schenk carried a 25 yard rushing touchdown with a minute to spare in the 2nd quarter. Although TP felt strong at half, 21-6, LCC responded in the second half with three touchdowns from Schenk, the last one capped with a two-point conversion. With two minutes left in the 4th quarter and the Falcons determined for another touchdown, LCC intercepts a pass and takes home the “W”.

Who will have a place in the CIF playoffs? I’ll keep you updated all Friday night. May the odds be ever in your favor Falcons and Mavericks!
