Week 11: Valley Center Jaguars 38, Ramona Bulldogs 35
It was an offensive showcase at Ramona High School but the Jaguars of Valley Center defeated the Bulldogs, 38-35, courtesy of a game-winning field goal by kicker Jeremiah Sinohui on Ramona’s senior night.
Both quarterbacks displayed their arm talent in this one, combining for seven passing touchdowns for the game.
The game started back-and-forth with both teams answering each other, as it was 14-all late in the second quarter.
Before the half was over, however, Ramona scored a touchdown with 24 seconds left.
Jacob Nelson hit Josh Fletcher for a 4-yard touchdown pass on a bootleg.
Ramona led 21-14 going into halftime on Senior Night.
In the third quarter, Jacob Nelson threw a bomb to receiver Jeremiah Friend, who made a spectacular contested catch for a 53-yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 28-14 late in the third quarter.
However, Valley Center got back into the game quickly thanks to quarterback Frank Stehly, who scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to cut the score to 28-21, Ramona, late in the third quarter.
Later in the fourth, Frank Stehly threw a rainbow down the sideline to James Pratt for a 50-yard touchdown pass to tie it at 28-all with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
What plagued Ramona in this game was two crucial fumbles in the fourth quarter, which Valley Center turned into 14 points.
Kyler Riche put the Jaguars up 35-28 with five minutes left courtesy of a 4-yard touchdown run.
Ramona answered as fast as you can, thanks to Cameron Cuevas’s 88-yard kickoff return touchdown to tie the game at 35-all with two minutes left.
However, Valley Center never panicked and orchestrated a 15-play drive to set up the game-winning 19-yard field goal by Sinohui to win the game, 38-35, in this back-and-forth contest.
For Valley Center, it improved to 6-4 and wait to see if it makes the playoffs.
For Ramona, this was the last game of the season as it falls to 2-8 on the season.
