Week 12 East County Game of the Week: Grossmont Foothillers 34, San Marcos Knights 20
The Grossmont Foothillers hosted the San Marcos Knights in the San Diego CIF Division I playoffs on Friday night.
And the Foothillers struck first as Jaime Odom scored on a quarterback keeper giving his team the early 7-0 lead.
But the Knights answered right back, as Kaden Vonaut snuck one up the middle, but after the missed PAT, it was 7-6.
Then, at the end of the first quarter, Odom got tripped up in the Knights defense and the ball got kicked away and scooped up by the Knights’ Jake Bolin who would get taken down right before the end zone.
But the very next play, it was Vonaut again getting the job done and it was 13-7 San Marcos.
In the second quarter, Odom would come back with another score putting the Foothillers back in the lead.
Then, it was an impressive throw and catch combo from Odom to Brody Schicker, putting Grossmont up by seven to end the half.
In the third quarter, Zavion Reese made a catch with a jaunt into the endzone, and the game was tied up at 20-all.
The Foothillers didn’t let it last for long.
Two minutes later, it was Robert Tucker breaking free and turning on the wheels, putting Grossmont in the lead.
Grossmont snapped a nine-game Game-of-the-Week losing streak.
The final, 34-20, Grossmont.
