Week 12: Mission Bay Buccaneers 56, San Ysidro Cougars 0
It had been four years since the Mission Bay Buccaneers had been in the playoffs but they defeated the Cougars from San Ysidro, 56-0, in a San Diego CIF Division V first-round playoff on Friday night.
The Bucs started this game with a touchdown on their first drive as Clash Orsborn pitched the ball to Payton Maul for a 20-yard run to the end zone, however, the extra point was blocked, and Buccaneers were up 6-0.
The Cougars got the ball and a fumble by quarterback Mathew Jaime gave them a loss of 11.
More pressure from Mission Bay’s defense and Jaime had no choice but to throw the ball out, unfortunately, a penalty was called for intentional grounding.
Getting the ball back in Cougar territory, Evan Aguon took the ball to the house from 10 yards out. The two-point conversion was good to Payton Maul for a 14-0 lead.
San Ysidro (3-8) got the ball back, but it is quickly fumbled and it was recovered by Aguon.
The Cougars almost stopped the Bucs from a first down, but instead, they went for a touchdown, as Orsborn found Aguon for a 33-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was no good, but the Bucs were up 20-0.
With less than a minute left in the first quarter, Mission Bay opted for an onside kick and recovered it, getting one more possession.
Putting on a show before the second quarter, Orsborn threw a lateral pass to Andrew Hutchison who threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Sloan. The two-point conversion was good and brought the score 28-0.
Moving into the second quarter, San Ysidro looked to be heading into Bucs territory when a big sack from Buccaneer Andrew Glick on Jaime stopped all momentum.
Mission Bay (5-6) continued to advance its lead with two more touchdowns before halftime and not allowing a Cougar near the end zone.
The Mission Bay Buccaneers will advance to the next round of playoffs, traveling to Holtville (8-2) to face off against the Vikings.
