Week 12 Pigskin Idol Game: Crawford Colts 38, Maranatha Christian Eagles 0
The Crawford Colts were able to handle business in the first round of the 2019 CIF Division V playoffs on Friday night, beating the Maranatha Christian Eagles, 38-0.
Crawford was able to jump out to an early lead in the first quarter and they never looked back.
Quarterback Kevin Luong was able to score the Colts’ first touchdown of the game, coming on an 8-yard touchdown run.
The defense then forced a fumble after sacking the quarterback on the following possession, which led to another Crawford score. This one came on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Luong to wide receiver Miguel Estrella, giving Crawford a 14-0 lead.
The Colts’ defense proceeded to come up big yet again on the following Maranatha Christian possession.
Cornerback Angel Lopez came on a blitz, and instead of sacking the quarterback, he stripped the ball out of his hands and returned it 10 yards for the touchdown.
That pushed the Colts’ lead to 21-0.
The rest of the game held up much of the same way. The Eagles’ offense couldn’t find any sort of rhythm against the stifling Colts defense.
Luong was able to throw for another passing touchdown in the second quarter, going to receiver Abdi Ali.
The Colts added a field goal and another rushing touchdown in the second half, but that didn’t change anything except the final score.
Next week, Crawford (5-6) will travel to Francis Parker (5-5) to take on the Lancers on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Maranatha Christian finishes their season with a 3-8 record.
