The Classical Academy Caimans chomped down on those Calexico High School Bulldogs for dinner like no tomorrow. The Caimans took home the victory against Calexico HS, 42-7. They came out with their heads held high, an energetic crowd, and overall positive environment at Orange Glen High School.
The Caimans started the game off early in the first quarter with touchdowns from running backs Damian Castaneda and Nate McCarthy. Quarterback Diego Preciado stepped up for his team and executed every pass with the intention of touchdown after touchdown. Castaneda had two touchdowns in the first half of the game, which gave his team extra energy to get that win. Also, Aiden Sutherlin and Nasser Jones held up their end for putting points on the board tonight.
Unfortunately, we will not see Calexico HS next week. The Bulldogs didn’t give up. At the bottom of the second quarter, QB Luis Meza handed off the ball to running back Christopher Gonzalez for a touchdown. The PAT was successful and ended at half with a score of 21-7. Maybe we will see the Bulldogs next year, but until then, best of luck in the rest of your school year.
Classical Academy will play Kearny Mesa in the Quarterfinals next week. Game on! We’ll see you next time folks!
It’s that time of the season folks: leaves are falling, weather is confusing, and some football seasons are coming to an end. But not for everyone though! This upcoming Friday we have the first round of CIF Playoffs. The Classical Academy Caimans take on the Calexico High School Bulldogs at 7 P.M. at Orange Glen High School. Put it on your calendars people.
Coach John Tyree and the Bulldogs ended their season with a 3-6 record and placed 11th in Division IV standings. Unfortunately, the team lost their last game of the season against Southwest El Centro High School, 18-9. But, it didn’t stop them from seeding 10th in this year’s playoffs. The three key players to search for at Friday’s game include QB Raymond Ontiveros, Christopher Gonzalez, and Eric Torres. Last year in CIF Playoffs, Calexico HS lost in the first round against Kearny Mesa High School, 45-6. This year could be different, we will have to wait and see.
Coach Jon Goodman and the Caimans placed 5th in Division IV and finished their season with an overall record 6-4. They topped off their season with a victory against La Jolla Country Day in a close game, 34-27. Some of the main players are QB James Duncan, Damian Castaneda, and Diego Preciado. The Caimans lost against Vincent Memorial, 59-0, in last year’s first round playoffs. They will make their appearance again in the CIF Playoffs this year and possibly take home a win.
The winner of this game will compete against Kearny Mesa High School next Friday, November 9th, in the CIF Quarterfinals.
