Week 13 East County Game of the Week: Helix Highlanders 12, St. Augustine Saints 7
Helix and St. Augustine faced off in the San Diego CIF Open Division semifinals on Friday night, as the Highlanders won, 12-7.
Near the end of the third quarter, Saintsman Sam Scaife had an interception, which would be his third of the night.
The next play, it was Richard Colmenero with the 36-yard pass to Jalil Tucker for – believe it or not – the first score of the game and at the end of the third, it was 7-0, Saints.
Then in the fourth, Helix had the ball on a fourth-and-goal but the snap was fumbled, followed by a sack of Delshawn Traylor.
But just a few plays later, the Saints were punting but it was blocked by the Scotties. After a dogpile, it was Helix’s ball.
Then with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, Keionte Scott finally broke through for the score, but flags would fly and he was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, so the Highlanders got pushed back on the point after and it was wide, leaving at 7-6, Saints.
But with two minutes to go, Sammy Stewart had a pick-six to win the nail biter game for Helix.
The Highlanders face Carlsbad in the Open Division final on Nov. 23.
