Week 13 North County Game of the Week: Mission Hills Grizzlies 35, La Costa Canyon Mavericks 10

The La Costa Canyon Mavericks and the Mission Hills Grizzlies met on the field for the San Diego CIF Division I quarterfinals and the North County Game of the Week in Week 13 of the Prep Pigskin Report. It’s the second year in a row these two teams faced off for a chance at the Division I finals and once again the Grizzlies came out on top, winning 35-10.

The game didn’t start the way Mission Hills had hoped.

On the very first play of the game, the Grizzlies fumbled the ball and the Mavericks recovered it, leading to a 26-yard field goal by Joe Bowman to give the Mavericks the 3-0 lead and their only lead of the game.

The Grizzlies answered right back with a 7-yard touchdown run by Mckyle So’oto right before the first quarter buzzer and Mission Hills took a 7-3 lead.

The Grizzlies attacked at the very start of the second quarter when quarterback Jackson Oksnee scrambled to find Joe Smith for the 14-3 lead.

Week 13 Big Pig on Campus nominee Cameron Woolsey lit up the board after he ran it in from seven yards out.

Oksnee wanted to join the rushing touchdown club, and he did just that when he ran it into the end zone from 22 yards out to take the 28-3 lead.

The Mavericks didn’t quit all night and ended up putting more points on the board in the fourth when Marshall Eucker handed it off to Aiden Lippert, who gave it to Samuel Bennett, who then threw it to Trevor Hagen in the end zone and the Mavericks were on the board, 28-10.

But it was all Grizzlies the rest of the way.

So’oto scored again from seven yards and Skai Donnell sealed the deal with an interception and the Mission Hills Grizzlies came out on top.

Mission Hills will take on Lincoln next Friday night in the Division I semifinals.
