North County Game of the Week: Cathedral Catholic Dons 35, Carlsbad Lancers 0

The Cathedral Catholic Dons (10-1) are back in the San Diego Section open Division Finals for the 2nd time in the last three years after a Dominant 35-0 win over the Carlsbad Lancers (6-4) in the Prep Pigskin Report North County Game of the Week.

Despite not having Head Coach Sean Doyle for the game for unspecified reasons, Defensive coodinator John Montali took over and called a near perfect ballgame.  2018 Silver Pigskin Finalist Shawn Poma gained 188 yards on 11 carries and scored 3 times.

Next Saturday at Southwestern College, Cathedral will face off against Torrey Pines for the 2018 Open Division title.

Preview: The Prep Pigskin Report North County Game of the Week takes us to Carmel Valley as the #2 seed Cathedral catholic hosts the #3 seed Carlsbad in the semi-finals of the open division playoffs.

Just so happens the last time these two teams played was the 2017 CIF San Diego Section Division 1 playoffs, with Carlsbad beating Cathedral 38-28 at Bob McCallister Field in Carlsbad.
These two teams are dramatically different in 2018, the Dons have a healthy RB in senior Shawn Poma, while the Lancers senior QB has quietly become one of the best quarterbacks in the San Diego section with 24 touchdown passes vs. 5 interceptions.
While most “Prep Football Experts” have Cathedral winning this one handily, know that these two teams have a common opponent in La Costa Canyon. LCC beat Cathedral handily in the 1st week of the season, while Carlsbad beat LCC handily in the 2nd to last week of the season.  This will be a game to watch, winner gets the winner of #1 Torrey Pines and #4 San Marcos in the CIFSDS Open Division finals next weekend at Southwestern College.
Highlights from this game and 19 more on the Prep Pigskin Report on Friday night, kick-off time at 11:00 PM only on KUSI.  You can follow me on twitter @Rickwillis99 for up to the minute scoring updates. See you Friday night on TV!
