Morse Tigers 22, Brawley Wildcats 14
Week 13 has now come and gone and playoffs are halfway over and the Morse Tigers drove off happy from Brawley. The Brawley Wildcats gave a good performance and even had an upper hand, but the Tigers offense was just too strong.
The game began with Brawley receiving the kick off. The Wildcats made their way to the one yard line and Casey Kline found the end zone giving Brawley the early lead, but the Wildcats unfortunately missed the extra point. The Wildcat defense held well in the beginning as the first quarter consisted mostly of both teams going back and forth.
Shortly into the second quarter, the Tigers gained possession and made it to the Wildcats’ seven yard line. Isiah Thompson of Morse then made his way in for the touchdown. When the Tigers went to kick off after the score, they squibbed the kick and the ball bounced off the cleat of a Wildcat and bounced its way back into the Tigers’ possession. However, Brawley got the ball back soon after and Michael Moreno rushed in for the score from the Tigers’ one yard line making the score 14-8 at the half.
The second half opened with the Tigers receiving and the Morse offense played a good game as the Tigers made it to the one yard line again. Isiah Thompson did what he does best and scored for Morse giving them the lead.
In the fourth quarter, Brawley’s offense played very well with the Wildcats making their way to the Tigers’ 12 yard line. On the fourth down, the Wildcats attempted a field goal, but unfortunately it was no good. This gave the Tigers a good push because soon after, Rayvon Benson from Morse would rush in for an 84 yard touchdown. Making the score 22-14. It was evident the Wildcats were hoping to score and get a two-point conversion and try to win the game in overtime, but the Morse defense gave their all. In the end the Tigers, regained possession and set up for victory formation in the last few seconds of the game. Now the Tigers look to facing the Christian Patriots in the Division III semi-finals.
It is now week 13 of the season and week 2 of playoffs which means the season is almost over. However it’s not over yet as the Red Jackets will be making the very long trip to Brawley, California to watch the Morse Tigers take on the Brawley Wildcats.
This is game one of playoffs for Brawley as they had a bye last week. The last game they played they received an unfortunate loss from Central with a final score of 14-10. However, the Wildcats have had a pretty good season as they are 8-2 so far and 4-1 in league games. The Wildcats are also in good hands thanks to senior runningback Michael Moreno who has rushed for 1,338 yards this season. Brawley so far holds a 5th place ranking in Division III.
As for Morse, their season hasn’t been too shabby. This will be their second playoff game as last week they got an impressive win against Hilltop with a final score of 42-14. The Tigers are 7-4 and 1-1 in league games. So far senior running backs Shamar Martin and Isiah Thompson seem to be the best ones to carry the ball for the Tigers. Morse is ranked in 4th place in Division III just above Brawley.
The game will be held this Friday November 9th at Brawley High School at 7:00 PM. If the drive is a bit far, you can always catch the highlights along with the highlights of every other high school in San Diego county on the Prep Pigskin Report at 11:00 PM on KUSI.
