Santa Fe Christian Eagles 27, Monte Vista Monarchs 17
And that’s a wrap on the Quarterfinals for Division III playoffs as the Santa Fe Christian Eagles defeated the Monte Vista Monarchs 27-17.
The game was off to a slow start with a scoreless first quarter but that’s not to say there wasn’t any action. In true McClendon fashion he had a great 50 yard run down the field.
The Eagles started the second quarter with one mission, get in the end zone and score a touchdown. Kian Hogan found the end zone from 4 yards out, and that’s not the last we would see of him this game.
Getting possession back, the Monarchs answered back by none other than Jahmon McClendan taking it to the house for a 72 yard touchdown run!
It looked like the Monarchs defense was finally warming up, as they backed the Eagles up 25 yards forcing the SFC a field goal attempt of 41 yards.
Back from the half, the Monarchs make their way down field to kick a field goal and tie it up at 10. Not for long though, Michael Linguadoca would find Will Littlejohn for a 62 yard touchdown pass.
Jack Bosman gets the Eagles 3 more points, this time from 26 yards out, stretching SFC’s lead to 20-10.
Last quarter of the game, the Monarch’s were hoping to tie this game up, and closer when McClendon ran on a 4th down for 31 yards for a touchdown. Monarch defense stopped the Eagles on their own 9 yard line, hoping for a hail Mary play to end this game. The ball is hiked, pitched to McClendon, reverse back to Kenny Stevens who is looking down field to EJ Henderson when the pass is intercepted by Kian Hogan and ran in for a 31 yard touchdown to seal the Eagles win 27-17.
The Santa Fe Christian Eagles (8-3) will head to the desert for next weeks semi-final game against the undefeated Central Spartans (11-0) to see who will make it to the Division III championship!
