Week 13: Santana Sultans 40, Escondido Cougars 28

Santana took Escondido not to church, but to Temple on Friday night. Nathan Temple, to be exact.

The Sultans’ star quarterback put on a QB clinic, going 13-for-20 for 185 yards and three touchdowns, a stat line that comes out to a 134.38 passer rating. However, he was not the only Nathan responsible for the Sultans’ positive result.

Nathan Hughes – and the rest of the Santana defense – swarmed all night, with Hughes delivering a pick-six and the defensive line piling on sack-after-sack to which Escondido had no answer.

A bright spot for the Escondido Cougars was their quarterback, Robert Rosas, who will return for the Cougars next season, and will be someone to watch out for in the North County.

But before looking ahead to 2020, let’s look ahead to next week when Orange Glen will travel down to East County to play Santana at El Capitan High School, the site for the Sultans’ home game now that they will be having their turf redone and are being removed from their stadium for the rest of the season.

Tune in next week to see if the Sultans can fend off their second straight challenger from Escondido, this time a fierce rushing attack led by Cael Patterson.
