Week 14 Game of the Week: Oceanside Pirates 45, Madison Warhawks 21

The Oceanside Pirates have been road warriors all season long and traveled to Madison to take down yet another home favorite in a dominating 42-21 win to return to the CIF Finals.

On their opening possession Jakob Harris completed a 56-yard bomb to Rich Jaime for a 7-0 lead. Madison answered immediately on the next drive when Ke’ontae Springs scored from 1 yard out to tie the game 7-7. The Warhawks then took their only lead of the game when Herman Smith caught a Jaylen Thomas pass and outraced the Oceanside secondary 80 yards for a touchdown and a 14-7 lead. The Pirates got pinned back at their own 4-yard line on a punt but that didn’t deter them. Kavika Tua took the Harris handoff off left guard and went 96 yards into the end zone to tie the game 14-14. Then, the Pirates took the lead to stay when Harris connected with Jaime again for a 49-yard touchdown to make it 21-14 Oceanside.

Madison quarterback Jaylen Thomas was injured shortly before halftime causing head coach Rick Jackson to have to scramble for a new strategy in the second half. It included Spring running the wildcat. Sam Burkman took over as the quarterback and went down the left sideline on a broken play, however, as he went to the ground linebacker Jalen Ramsey stripped the ball and ran 65 yards to the end zone for a touchdown giving the Pirates a 28-14 lead.

Oceanside cruised to a 45-21 win over Madison to improve to 9-4 and will head to the finals to play against the Lincoln Hornets. The Warhawks fell to 7-5. Harris finished 17 for 25 305 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kavika Tua ran the ball 20 times for 210 yards 2 touchdowns.
