North County Game of the Week: Mira Mesa Marauders 35, Valley Center Jaguars 32

The Prep Pigskin Report takes the North County Game of the Week to Valley Center for the second time this season. This one has a lot more at stake at the #7 seeded Mira Mesa Marauders travel north to take on the #3 seeded Valley Center Jaguars in the semi-finals of the Division 2 CIFSDS playoffs.

While these two teams have scrimmaged several times, they have never played an “Official” game before.  Valley Center had a bye in the first round of the playoffs before beating Vista 26-7, while Mira Mesa knocked off San Pasqual at home  42-21 before beating Poway on the road in the quarterfinals 28-21.
Valley Center has shown they can play with any big school in Sa Diego County, going 9-2 and winning the Valley League with a perfect 5-0 record. And their success starts with their offensive line, anchored by Shack’s Pig Pen Inductee Edward Hill. He leads the way for Senior RB Mateo Sinohui who has rushed more than 1,700 yards and 29 touchdowns in 11 games this season.  The Jaguars also got a big boost from TE/LB Ben Wierenga who is a member of the USA Youth Rugby team.  Wierenga returns to the gridiron after spending the last seven weeks playing rugby with the national team in Argentina.
Mira Mesa is now realizing their full potential as a program under first year head coach Chris Thompson who spent several years as an assistant coach on the Marauders staff.  Thompson who lead Bonita Vista High School to a CIF Title and berth in the CIF state championship has energized the program. Which helps when you have a dual threat quarterback like senior Noah Tumblin. “Rumblin Stumblin, Tumblin” were the first words out of Coach Gilster’s mouth when asked about the Mira Mesa players, “We have to contain him to win this game.”. What Coach Thompson has done with Tumlin is changed his game that was chaos into organized chaos. “I wish I had one more year with him (Noah), and i promise you he would be an “Elite 11” Quarterback.
