Week 2 North County Game of the Week: Lincoln Hornets 26, El Camino Wildcats 24
A game full of flags, interceptions, and fumbles, ended with the Lincoln Hornets on top, 26-24, over the El Camino Wildcats in the North County Game of the Week.
The first quarter was all over the place, from an interception by Noah Sega that later turned into a fumble recovered by Lincoln which soon turned into a safety as El Camino gets on the board first, 2-0.
The Hornets answered back later in the first when Tyler Jensen found Keyshawn Smith for the touchdown and the lead, 7-2.
Later in the second quarter the Hornets sting again, as this time Benjamin O’Brien had a 26-yard gain, which led to a 3-yard touchdown, and Lincoln took a 14-2 lead.
The action started to pick up in the fourth quarter, as El Camino’s Joey Armentrout found Jacob Gathright for the touchdown and the Wildcats were only down by three.
With five minutes left in the game, El Camino says, ‘this is our house,’ as Zion Jackson took it to the house with a 31-yard touchdown run and the Wildcats led 24-20.
The Hornets knew it was El Camino’s house, but they responded by saying, ‘this is our game.’
El Camino ended up fumbling the ball and along came Curon Brown-Dunn. The senior captain picked up the loose ball and went 77 yards for a score, and just like that the Lincoln Hornets came out on top and won their second game of the season.
The Lincoln Hornets will have their first home game of the season next Friday night as they host Eastlake.
Meanwhile, the El Camino Wildcats will have another shot at a home win as they host La Costa Canyon.
The North County Game of the Week takes us out to El Camino as the Wildcats host the Lincoln Hornets in Week 2 of the Prep Pigskin Report.
After making a run to the state Division 3-AA championship game, the Hornets look to repeat this season, but come out with a win this time. The Lincoln Hornets are coming off a 42-7 win over Monte Vista.
Head Coach David Dunn in his 9th year as head coach. Number 5 on our PPR Top 30 Seniors list, Receiver Keyshawn Smith, returns for his senior season and leads the offense after losing their key running back Xavier Hamlett in an injury during the teams scrimmage two weeks ago. Hamlett suffered an apparent left arm injury.
On the other side of the field, the El Camino Wildcats are coming off a 1-9 2018 season, a season to forget. After an opening-game win, the Wildcats dropped the next 9 games. Head Coach Michael Hobbs, in his 8th year, was to turn everything around in 2019.
El Camino won their first game of the 2019 season, winning 37-33 against Point Loma. Zion Jackson is the key player for the Wildcats this season, whether he’s running the ball into the end zone or catching a pass from Joe Armentrout. Other key returning players for the Wildcats include O-linemen Issac Tinoisamoa and Jonathan Tuitasi. Another key senior to look out for is in Zion Jackson coming off of 25 total tackles last season.
