Week 3: Santana Sultans 41, Mar Vista Mariners 0

It was a party in the end zone. It was at Santana High School, and you had to be a Sultan wearing purple to get in.

The Sultans defense kept the Mariners scoreless on this night.

Senior quarterback Nathan Temple led the way when he scrambled out of the pocket and found Randy Smith for an 8-yard touchdown pass to go up 7-0.

Later in the first quarter, Temple found Nathan Hughes on a 6-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0.

For the third touchdown pass of the first quarter, Temple found Hughes again for a 21-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Temple continued with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Donnie Kelly, making it 27-0.

Later in the second quarter, Dean Landers returned a punt 37 yards to set up Temple with his fifth and final touchdown pass of the game, this time again to Smith.

To start the third quarter, Sultans running back Nick Brase rushed in the final score of the game from six yards out.

The Santana Sultans are now 3-0 on the season and the Mar Vista Mariners fall to 1-2.

PREVIEW

The Santana Sultans (2-0) host the Mar Vista Mariners (1-1) Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

Last year, the Sultans went to Imperial Beach and won 23-6 against the Mariners. This year, the Mariners have to go to Santee to get their revenge.

Santana has been on the road for the first two games of the season, so they look to put on a show for the welcome home party.

Sultan running back Brooks Moutaw rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown against Serra. Quarterback Nathan Temple threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns. One of those two touchdowns went for 72 yards to Randy Smith, who finished the game with 150 yards.

Mar Vista took a tough loss to Santa Ana Valley, 40-6, so they will fight to get on the scoreboard this week.

Be sure to tune into KUSI’s Prep Pigskin Report this Friday night at 11 p.m. for highlights, scores, and all things high school football.
