Week 3: San Clemente Tritons 13, La Costa Canyon Mavericks 12

Week 3 in La Costa Canyon was a nail-biter as the San Clemente Tritons snuck past the Mavericks, 13-12.

This one started off slow as Nick Billoups would find the end zone on a 23-yard rush which would be the only touchdown of the first half.

The defense would be the story of this game as the Mavericks forced multiple tackles for loss and both teams tallied a couple sacks.

Midway through the third quarter, the Mavs would take their first lead of the game as Marshal Eucker found George Montgomery for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Shortly after, the Mavs would force a safety, moving ahead, 12-7.

Things would start to heat up late in the fourth quarter as the Tritons would strike a comeback and Billoups would find the end zone a second time and this time it would put them into a 13-12 lead.

The Mavericks would give it everything they had but on a tipped pass, the Tritons’ London Hannah would seal the game with an interception with less than two minutes to go.

This one would come down the wire as the San Clemente Tritons remain undefeated heading into Week 4 at 3-0.

In this week’s North County matchup, we’re headed up the coast as the San Clemente Tritons take on the La Costa Canyon Mavericks.

San Clemente comes into this one 2-0, ranked No. 34 in California, as the 69th ranked Mavericks will try to put an end to the Tritons’ 2-0 start.

Coming into Week 3 at 1-1, the La Costa Canyon Mavericks will have a shot to tie their record with the Tritons by going 2-1.

Senior Linebacker Austin Nicholas leads a very strong front seven as they take on a Triton offense that has already shown early that they can put up points this year, as they averaged over 30 points through the first two weeks.

After going 7-5 in 2018, the San Clemente Tritons look to keep they’re season perfect by going 3-0.
