Week 4: Hilltop Lancers 27, Valhalla Norsemen 13
Fans in the stands were in for quite a treat tonight as a great contest between the Valhalla Norsemen and Hilltop Lancers took place.
Before the game, the Hilltop varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders hosted a large group of young girls for a cheerleading clinic. Smiles beamed as kickoff took place.
The game quickly started off as Lancer quarterback Javin Deanda executed a quick screen pass to Marko Aki, who took it back 70 yards and into the endzone.
Shortly after, Norseman Kegan Baker answered back with a 43-yard touchdown to tie up the game.
As the night progressed, the Hilltop Lancer offense did not let up.
Jeremiah Serrano not only scored a touchdown of his own but he also consistently plowed past defenders to gain substantial yardage for Hilltop. A key run by Serrano set up teammate Abraham Avila to score on a 38-yard scamper.
Later in the fourth quarter with the Norsemen at their own 10-yard line, the offensive line held out just long enough for Luke Pillsbury to score on a quarterback keeper.
Although Valhalla’s determination and efforts were high, it was not enough to dominate over the Lancers.
As the clock ran out, the Norsemen fell short of the win to the Lancers, 27-13.
This is the first time Hilltop has had a 4-0 record since 2013.
Valhalla will seek a win this upcoming against the Mount Miguel Matadors. The Lancers will host the Morse Tigers at home in hopes of keeping their undefeated record alive.
This Friday night, the reigning Metro South Bay League champions, the Hilltop Lancers, will host the Valhalla Norsemen in their first non-conference matchup since 1990.
Valhalla holds a 2-0 record after defeating West Hills last week, 24-14. Also, with a winning streak are the Lancers, who picked up a sweet 43-3 victory over San Ysidro last Friday night.
Hilltop favors more of a passing offense whereas Valhalla dominates their opponents with a rushing offense. Both teams have key players that dominate on the field.
Valhalla will look to utilize senior Kegan Baker, who has 468 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this season.
Hilltop’s offense is greatly impacted by senior Javin Deanda, who has an impressive 53 completions this season for a total of 890 yards. On the field, Deanda consistently finds senior Marko Aki. Aki leads the team in receiving yards with 461 yards this season.
With players such as the aforementioned, this week’s game seems like a battle of the offenses. One team will lose its undefeated record.
