Week 4: Rancho Bernardo 38, Point Loma 0

It was all Broncos on their Homecoming, shutting out Point Loma, 38-0.

Rancho Bernardo got their scoring started on the first drive when Zeke Payne connected with Noah Morris for a 35-yard Bronco touchdown.

On the Pointers’ second offensive play, Jason Peres threw a 35-yard bomb to Tristin Schafer to put the Pointers in Bronco territory. But, on the very next play, they coughed up a fumble to the Broncos.

That fumble led to a 1-yard touchdown run by Javen Jovero, extending the Broncos lead to 14-0.

The Broncos were threatening to score once again at the end of the half until Tristin Schafer grabbed an interception to halt the drive.

Another Point Loma fumble to open up the second half would lead to Bronco kicker Landon Ogles nailing a deep 47-yard field goal to give Rancho Bernardo a 17-0 second-half lead.

As the third quarter ran down, the Broncos were far from done scoring. Payne found Carson Palacki from 8 yards out for another touchdown pass.

Late in the fourth, the Broncos leaned on sophomore running back Daniel Michelon Pando for a clock-killing drive that was finished off with a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Chris Dartey.

The game was all but done, but the Broncos still weren’t finished. Kevin Wax ran an interception back for a touchdown as time expired to give Rancho Bernardo a 38-0 victory on Homecoming.

The Broncos defense was impenetrable on the night, never allowing Point Loma to even reach the red zone.

The Rancho Bernardo Broncos will be hosting their Homecoming game this Friday night against the Point Loma Pointers.

Point Loma (1-2) is coming off a 39-26 home loss against Otay Ranch last week.

The offense for the Pointers has been clicking early in the season, scoring 26 or more points in each of their three games. The ground game is a large part of their offensive success, led by senior running back Kaden Gill.

The Pointers defense, however, is hoping to turn their early season performance around. They showed flashes of greatness giving up eight points to Ramona in Week 2, but have given up 37 and 39 to El Camino and Otay Ranch, respectively.

Look for two-way starter Tristian Shafer to have a big impact for the Pointers on Friday.

The Rancho Bernardo Broncos (1-2) are coming into their Homecoming game off a big first win of the season, defeating Valley Center, 17-0. They had previously lost to a talented Madison team in Week 1 and barely dropped their Week 2 matchup to San Pasqual, 35-31.

The Broncos have a young starting group, so this win could carry a lot of momentum for the team as the season progresses.

The Bronco defense stepped up in a big way last week shutting out Valley Center and hopes to keep their momentum going against a Point Loma team that has put up a lot of points to open up the season.

The Bronco offense hasn’t put up any huge numbers in a game this year but has consistently played well. Senior quarterback Zeke Payne has been the heart of the Bronco offense this far.
