Week 4 City Game of the Week: Scripps Ranch Falcons 17, Mira Mesa Marauders 7
What a week 4 matchup. The Mira Mesa Marauders took on the Scripps Ranch Falcons for a big rivalry game. The Mira Mesa Marauders also recognized their staff at the game. They celebrated the hard-working faculty with a taco dinner before the game.
The game started off with a pick-six by Mira Mesa’s Makei Thompson for a 43-yard touchdown. That put the Marauders on the board first, making the score 7-0.
Scripps Ranch didn’t let the Marauders stay on top for long.
The Falcons were on a fourth down and went for it.
That risk was worth the reward as the Scripps Ranch Falcons scored, thanks to the throw from quarterback Luke Derkin to Mekhi Shaw for a 34-yard touchdown, making the score all tied up at 7-all.
To break the tie going into halftime, the Scripps Ranch Falcons got a field goal thanks to kicker Matthew Killam.
After half time the Scripps Ranch Falcons weren’t done yet.
Derkins gave the ball to Nicholas Gardinera for a 26-yard touchdown, making the score 17-7, Scripps Ranch, which would also be the final.
This is another win for the Scripps Ranch Falcons, making their record 4-0. The Falcons are undefeated and are looking to keep their streak going into Week 5.
Looks like the Falcons flew away with this victory, even though they have the rival trophy, for now, the Marauders will be looking to get it back next year.

Wow, it’s already week 4 of the high school football season. One game to watch is the Scripps Ranch Falcons versus the Mira Mesa Marauders. These two schools are rivals and are both looking to claim a win this Friday.
The Mira Mesa Marauders have a record of 1-2, as they are hosting this week’s game.
The Marauders went 10-3 last year and are led by coach Chris Thompson, who in his second year as the head coach.
Coach Thompson has had a great impact on the Marauders in his two years, as he had previously been an assistant coach at Mira Mesa for 22 years before leaving to coach at several other schools before his return.
Mira Mesa has a very young team, but lots of talent. Their quarterback, Teige Barrett, is well known for his play on the baseball field, and now is establishing himself as the starting quarterback in his first season of football.
The Scripps Ranch Falcons are undefeated so far, as their record is 3-0.
One of the Falcons that have been an important part of the Scripps Ranch success is junior Rashad Griffin. He is a multi-purpose player who is a playmaker.
Another Falcon that has helped the team is quarterback Luke Durkin. Durkin has had 322 passing yards on the season with three TDs in the two games he has started.
The teams’ records can be thrown out when they get together to battle in this community rivalry game.
It has traditionally come down to the wire and don’t expect anything different this time.
The winner gets the bragging rights for the next year, and for the seniors at each school for the rest of their lives. You don’t want to miss this one, come early as it will be a standing-room-only crowd.
