Week 5: Clairemont Chieftains 60, San Ysidro Cougars 20
The Clairemont Chieftains hosted their Homecoming game this week versus San Ysidro High School where they conquered the Cougars, 60-20. This gives the Chieftains an overall record of 3-1 and San Ysidro (0-5) is still without a win.
Starting off in the first quarter, Eduardo Valencia made an interception on Clairemont’s first possession play but was unable to convert.
Chieftains running back Brayan Guerrero ran in Clairemont’s first touchdown for a 3-yard score. Daniel Placencia from the Cougars blocked the extra point making it 6-0.
Coming back down again into Cougar territory, Ryan Christensen threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Max Wehsner, giving Clairemont a 12-0 lead.
With 1:39 left in the first quarter, Russell Madriaga from Clairemont sacked the quarterback leading to another Chieftains possession. That led to a 1-yard touchdown to start off the second quarter as the Chieftains increased the gap to 19-0.
On the next possession of the game for the Cougars, Jesus Coronado made a 26-yard interception and ran it in for a touchdown giving the Chieftains their largest lead thus far, 26-0.
The Cougars finally had enough and immediately responded with a 49-yard reverse touchdown by Mckai Jackson, making it, 26-6.
The Chieftains finished off the second quarter with four more touchdowns by Kieran White, Justin Rice, and Alec Schu. Christensen threw three of those touchdowns, ending the first half, 46-14.
The Chieftains successfully end their Homecoming week with another great victory, 60-20. Christensen finished with three passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and 281 yards.
Clairemont will be on the road next week where they give the Southwest Raiders a visit at 7 p.m. San Ysidro will be back on their home field versus the Hoover Cardinals at 7 p.m.

It’ll be a special week this Friday, as the Clairemont Chieftains (2-1) host their 2019 Homecoming game versus the San Ysidro Cougars (0-4) at 6:15 p.m.
The Chieftains have started their season on a solid run and are coming into this week with two wins under their belt versus Maranatha Christian and El Cajon Valley. The mini football squad broke El Cajon Valley’s undefeated streak as the Chieftains made some key plays to steal the win, 13-7.
The San Ysidro Cougars are struggling to land a victory this season as they are currently 0-4. Will the Cougars be able to land their first win this week?
Kickoff this week has been moved up to 6:15 p.m. due to the special event we have on the Chiefs’ home field where they will be announcing the title of the 2019 Homecoming Queen, along with a halftime fireworks show.
