Morse Tigers 49, Chula Vista Spartans 14
Week 6 concludes with the Morse Tigers coming out on top against the Chula Vista Spartans, 49-14.
In the first half, both teams continued to answer and respond to each other.
Just 20 seconds into the game, Shamar Martin came barreling out of the gate for a 75-yard touchdown run.
Just when you thought that was a great way to start the game, think again. Morse decides to pull a two-point conversion, and it was good. Morse leads 8-0.
Morse’s Isaiah Thompson came home with a 12-yard touchdown run, and Morse decided to attempt another two-point conversion, and it was good again. Morse’s risks seemed to pay off, making it 16-0 in the first quarter.
With 40 seconds left in the second quarter, Chula Vista’s Joe Pacheco put the Spartans on the scoreboard with a 5-yard touchdown run, making it 16-7.
Chula Vista decided to throw some more points on the board. With just seconds until halftime, the Spartans’ Steven Espinoza tightened the score with a QB sneak, making it 16-14, Morse.
As the third quarter rolled around, Chula Vista seemed to have trouble putting a stop to Morse’s vigorous offense.
Morse’s Isaiah Thompson had a total of 4 touchdowns and Shamar Martin had two.
Chula Vista’s efforts did not go unnoticed. The Spartans steadily managed to press on.
Morse improves their record to 3-2, and Chula Vista drops to 2-4.
Next week, Morse will face the La Jolla Vikings and Chula Vista will play the Monte Vista Monarchs.
As we enter Week 6, the Chula Vista Spartans (2-3) will be hosted by the Morse Tigers (2-2) this Friday night.
Chula Vista’s junior wide receiver and corner back Alex Guzman leads the pack in receiving yards with 149 yards. The Spartans defense looks pretty sharp too. The team has a total of 5 interceptions. Speaking of defense, senior defensive tackle and fullback Faleapa Toilolo, stands out with a whopping 6 sacks this season. Morse might want to be on the lookout and keep a tight offense.
Morse has the home advantage this week, as they are undefeated when it comes to playing on their home turf (2-0).
Not only does Morse have the home field advantage, they also have someone named Shamar Martin. Martin is a senior cornerback and running back who has impressed quite a few. He has received offers from Big Ten schools like Nebraska and Wisconsin and Pac- 12 schools like Arizona State and Oregon, just to name a few. Martin ultimately committed to play for UCLA. This season he stands out with a total of 10 tackles. Let’s see what Martin does with Week 6.
