Week 6: Montgomery Aztecs 27, Mar Vista Mariners 6
The Montgomery Aztecs continued on with their winning streak, improving to 5-1, as they defeated the Mar Vista Mariners, 27-6.
It was a very explosive night for the Aztec quarterback Alexander Dixie. The junior had an impressive night, totaling 220 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
It was a defensive battle between the two teams in the first half.
Christian Venegas started off the first defensive play with a quarterback sack.
Next, Alex Flores picked off Michael Maeva in the end zone preventing the Mariners from a touchdown.
The matchup tonight had a bit of a slow start. The first touchdown did not hit the scoreboard until the second half by Dixie.
On the first possession of the second half, Dixie found himself dodging the Mariners defense and rushed for 25 yards, and then 38 yards to follow with the first touchdown, making it 6-0.
The second touchdown was set up by Dixie when he ran 33 yards to the 1-yard line, and Venegas finished the job with a one-yard run, making it 13-0.
In the fourth quarter, the Mariners were able to hang tight and break through the Aztecs defense for a 75-yard pass and run touchdown from Maeva to Juan Larson, making it 13-6.
However, Venegas responds with a 33-yard touchdown run, making it 20-6.
With 1:42 left in the game, Dixie had an interception and ran his way play-by-play for his second touchdown of the night, making it 27-6.
Both teams have the next week off, and the Aztecs will face the Sweetwater Red Devils on Oct. 11 (location TBD). The Mariners will take on their rivals, Southwest (SD), at Mar Vista, on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m..

Both teams are coming off of losses from last week’s matchups. Montgomery (4-1) took a tough loss out from the Santana Sultans, giving the Aztecs their first loss of the season.
The Mar Vista Mariners are coming out of two disappointing play-by-play winning games, and now have an overall record of 1-4. Their past four games have been on the road and the Mariners haven’t won since they were on home ground.
