Week 6: Cathedral Catholic Dons 63, Otay Ranch Mustangs 0

It was all Cathedral Catholic in Friday night’s matchup with the Otay Ranch Mustangs, as the Dons rolled to a 63-0 win.

Cathedral was on fire from the start, blocking a punt on the first possession landing their offense on the Mustang 1yard line. The next play, Zavien Watson was able to take a short handoff into the end zone for the 7-0 lead.

The next Dons drive, DJ Ralph connected with Colman Smith for a 17-yard touchdown. After a successful fake extra point, the Dons extended their early lead to 15-0.

Zavien Watson would tack on another touchdown run before the first quarter finished, giving the Dons a 22-0 lead heading into the second.

In the second, DJ Ralph had a rushing touchdown and later a 37-yard touchdown pass to Christian Hall to ultimately give the Dons a 36-0 lead going into halftime.

The Dons started off the second half with a 29-yard touchdown run from Christian Hall.

The Dons would go onto score three more touchdowns, two of them by Conor Guiltinan, and the Dons rolled on to a 63-0 victory.

PREVIEW

The Otay Ranch Mustangs (2-3) are coming into the home of the Cathedral Catholic Dons (4-1) Friday night hoping to upset the MaxPreps’ 21st-ranked team in the country.

The Mustangs are wrapping up a tough three-game stretch where they’ve lost to St. Augustine and last week to an undefeated Steele Canyon team by seven points with a late opportunity at the end zone.

The key players on offense for the Mustangs are quarterback Paco Puentes running back DJ Meno.

Defensively, Keith Robinson looks to carry the momentum from his two-interception game last week into this week’s matchup with the Dons.

Cathedral has more than impressed this season by beating two of the perennial best programs on the west coast in Saguaro and Centennial. The only blemish on their record this far has come by the hands of a consistently talented Helix program.

Between the ground and the air, quarterback DJ Ralph has put up 712 yards and eight total touchdowns so far this season. Meanwhile, runningback Zavien Watson has rushed for 727 yards with 10 total touchdowns to his name so far.

The Dons have an overall very talented defensive group, as well. Outside of their games against two powerhouse offensive teams in Centennial and Helix, the Dons are yet to give up more than 10 points in a single game. In fact, they held the second-ranked team in Arizona, Saguaro, to only 10 points.
