Week 7: Rancho Bernardo Broncos 52, El Camino Wildcats 13
We are seven weeks into the San Diego high school football season and this week we have a non-league battle between the El Camino Wildcats (1-4) and the Rancho Bernardo Broncos (3-2). The Wildcats are traveling to the Broncos this week as the Broncos are celebrating Homecoming.
The El Camino Wildcats are coming into this non-league matchup after a tough 46-31 loss to a very good Eastlake team.
Eastlake used nine runners to rush for 228 yards on the Wildcats, however, El Camino’s quarterback, Brock Manber, had a good game as he ran for a 66-yard touchdown and threw a 44-yard strike to Alexander Fetko.
Wildcat running back Ranse Garner ran for 89 yards on 14 carries including a touchdown.
The talented El Camino team will try to rebound against a strong Rancho Bernardo team.
The performances of the El Camino players were overlooked by a brawl that happened on the field in the fourth quarter as Eastlake gained possession from the Wildcats’ onside kick.
San Diego Section officials Commissioner Jerry Schniepp and Assistant Commissioner John Labeta made the decision to suspend multiple players and a staff member from both schools.
The Rancho Bernardo Broncos pulled out a win at home last week against Del Norte, 59-14.
The Nighthawks held the lead in the first quarter, 14-0, then it was all Broncos.
Bronco running back Tahj Martin ran for 117 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown.
Both Bronco quarterbacks – Zeke Payne and Noah Morris – combined for 10-of-16 passing and 178 yards in the air and two touchdowns.
The Broncos hope to keep it rolling with a win on homecoming.
