Week 7 Game of the Week: Mission Hills Grizzlies 27, Oceanside Pirates 0
In a game between two top 10 teams, who also happen to be crosstown rivals, Mission Hills dominated all phases of the game en route to a 27-0 shutout of Oceanside.
Both teams traded possessions throughout the first half of the game. Neither team scored until under two minutes remained in the first half and it was the biggest play of the game.
Grizzlies quarterback Jackson Oksnee threw a screen pass to Cameron Woolsey, who outraced the Pirate defense down the sideline for a 77-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Mission Hills got the ball back and drove to the Pirate 35-yard line. Kicker Zeke Mata then drilled a 52-yard field goal to make it 10-0 Grizzlies at the half.
The Oceanside offense continued to struggle in the second half as the Grizzlies keyed on running back Kevika Tua and didn’t allow a run longer than 13 yards.
Midway through the third quarter, Oksnee threw his second touchdown pass of the night when he hit Skai Donnell, as he made a diving catch into the end zone, making it 17-0.
Oksnee finished the night completing 7-of-12 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a late rushing touchdown on a quarterback sneak from the 1-yard line.
The Mission Hills defense had five sacks on the night with Thomas Marron and Christian Ponce getting two apiece. The Oceanside offense did not get the ball into Mission Hills territory until there were 45 seconds left in the game.
Mission Hills improved its record to 4-2 and will host Torrey Pines next week. Oceanside fell to 4-2 and will host Carlsbad next week.
