Week 7: Hilltop Lancers 49, Mountain Empire RedHawks 21

The Hilltop Lancers defeated the Mountain Empire RedHawks in a non-conference game at Hilltop High School.

The Lancers took the 49-21 win and improved their record to 6-1 in the season. The RedHawks record dropped to a 5-1.

Tony Candelaria opened the scoreboard with an impressive 67-yard punt return. He bounced off his defenders and followed his blockers to make all the way to the end zone. The first score of the night made it 7-0, Lancers.

In the second quarter, the Lancers were up 14-7, but that lead did not stop them from pushing forward.

Hilltop’s Jeremiah Serrano maneuvered his way through the RedHawk defense and completed a 25-yard touchdown run, as the Lancers took the lead, 21-7.

In the same quarter, Mountain Empire’s Khaliel Whitehead responded with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Nick Rose, making the score 28-13, Lancers.

In the third quarter, Jeremiah Serrano scored two touchdowns and Diego Castro scored another, advancing the Lancers’ lead to 49-13.

Even though the odds were against the RedHawks, they did not give up without a fight.

Jericho Brennan scored the last touchdown of the game with an impressive 35-yard run to add seven more points to the Mountain Empire scoreboard.

The final score was 49-21, in favor of Hilltop.

Next week Hilltop has an away rivalry conference game against Chula Vista.

Mountain Empire returns home where it will host O’Farrell Charter.
